HANDS-ON REMOTE LAB INTERACTIVES

*includes student materials and INteractive remote instruction

SOME OF THESE LABS CAN ALSO BE USED FOR A REMOTE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR YOUR SCHOOL OR ORGANIZATION. ASK US HOW!

Outside The Box Labs has developed a unique remote HANDS-ON lab interactives complete with remote LIVESTREAM instructors/lesson to complement standards and curriculum.

The lab Interactives include:

  1. Interactive Remote LIVESTREAM lab Lesson: Allows for student remote participation/questions during and directly after the lab. *Scheduled LIVESTREAM lab is recorded for student playback in the event of an absence (or desire for additional playback) on the day of their scheduled LIVESTREAM instruction.

  2. Individual prepackaged lab kit for each student: Provides critical hands-on learning component to schools, teachers, and parents.

Each lab in the series includes a interactive live video lesson that does not require the class teacher’s participation to run. Should the classroom teacher desire to co-teach/interact, the interface is adaptable to allow for this possibility. Lab kits provided to students contain small portions of materials designed for safe at home experimentation in line with educational standards and can be adapted to ALL grade levels.

These labs are useful for cyber schools and are especially relevant now for clients such as brick-and-mortar institutions that have opted to have students home during the pandemic. These kits are complementary enrichment opportunities that work best when strategically embedded into the school’s current curriculum. The process ensures retention of the critical hands-on education component that helps generate curiosity and engagement among young learners.

See titles and brief descriptions for each lab lesson in the full school lab series below. General pricing is dependent on number of participating students per class, number of classes that will participate per school or district, and number of labs required. Schools may opt to select only a few desired labs rather than the full series but minimum kit numbers are required to receive kit offering that include the LIVE lab lesson element. Labs are altered and added to this series on a rotating basis. The 15 provided labs in the series offer roughly a bi-weekly hands-on option for your students in science throughout a standard school year.

Lasers, light, & holograms

Experiments with light and color. Great for physics!

*This lab kit includes a low-level laser and materials to construct their own cell phone/tablet hologram.

SERIOUSLY REACTIVE!

The basics of matter and experiments with several reactions. Students will mix various chemicals and observe changes involving heat, color, gas, and more.

*This lab kit includes all mixing chemicals and unique metal the kids won’t be able to stop playing with!

CLEAR DOESN’T MEAN WATER!

With this lab kit students will explore the pH scale and experiment with acids and bases as well as test unknowns to determine where they fall on the scale. Students will also learn how to make their very own pH indicator so they can take their knowledge further and test things around the house.

*small amounts of weak acids and bases will be used in this lab along with vials of pH indicator and test strips

MICROBES AMONG US

In the live lab we show students various organisms that you need a microscope to see. Additionally students will get to swab their environments and see what’s growing around them.

*Petri dishes and swabbing materials included in lab kit

OPPOSITES ATTRACT

Students will learn the science behind magnetism and discover how it can be applied to build many of the things we use every day.

*Kit provides magnets and contents for students to build their own simple motors that they can expand on and perfect with endless additions.

This electricity lab is a perfect follow up lab to magnetism as they are very related and the students are amazed by this knowledge. Base knowledge of electrons is applied to simple experiments in addition to students building a simple working battery to light up a small bulb.

SHOCKING SCIENCE

Students will learn about how science can be applied to forensic investigations by utilizing the technique of simple paper chromatography. This lab works great as a general chemistry lab as well!

CSI FOrensics

Students will learn the science behind crystal formation and the molecular structures of different types of crystals and compounds.

*All materials to grow small batch of crystals provided

LET’S GROW CRYSTALS

In this lab students will learn all about plants (especially some highly UNUSAL ones!) and seeds.

* Each get contains a grow kit for students to grow their own MOVING PLANT!

RAPID PLANT MOTION: You have to see to believe!

MY HUMAN BLUEPRINT: DNA EXTRACTION

This lab is often done with high schoolers but is simple enough for elementary school students to enjoy as well! Students will learn about the basics of DNA and will then extract some from a fruit of their choice.

*Comes with storage vial for their extraction and all required extraction materials

As hands-on as it gets: A great intro to anatomy with an element of the unknown! Students will dissect their own owl pellet and get the opportunity to ID the bones of the animal inside and if they are lucky may even have a complete skeleton. What will it be? Look at the chart to find out. Might be a mouse, move, vole, who knows!?!

*1 owl pellet and anatomy chart/lab kit

WHat’s IN THERE? Owl Pellet Dissection

Students will learn that medical doctors are in fact, scientists. Basic diagnostic tests will be discussed and students can apply their knowledge with friends and family. What is an eye exam? 20/20 vision? How does a reflex work? What is a good heart rate?

*Students will get their very own nursing stethoscope to keep as part of this lab.

intro to Medical Science

In this lab students break into geological science and the formation of fossils.

*Students will get a few pieces of local shale to hack through as well their own crack and keep geode!

THis Lab Rocks!

Students will learn the science behind what gets a rocket into the air and then build their own mini rockets that can be safely shot in a small area outside.

It’s not rocket science…Oh wait, it is!

Boom! What’s that sound?

Students will experience some visually stunning demos and learn about vibrations, sound waves, and will make a basic kazoo style harmonica to test some sounds for themselves!
